Song of the Day:

Thorns of Life “Black Art”

Fresh off seeing Blake Schwarzenbach’s latest band, Forgetters, I can’t help but revisit his career. One of my top three all time songwriters has allowed to be a heartbroken teen with Jawbreaker’s 24 Hour Revenge Therapy, a maturing young man with Jets to Brazil’s Orange Rhyming Dictionary and now that I am in my late 20’s (gasp!) and I just want to be a kid again, he hits me with Thorns of Life and Forgetters.

Thorns of Life didn’t last long, would play super spur of the moment shows at bars here in Brooklyn and did one super secret tour in California. It’s a man who has realized I think he has spent too much time trying to be figure out what he wants to be, but now he just wants to have fun and sing about what he knows: Politics and heartache. Thorns of life have basically become Forgetters, even keeping some songs.

And releases? nope, none yet. This is a bootleg of a Gilman Street show. A coming home of sorts (for anyone familiar with Jawbreaker). “Black Art” is an amazing song that has progressed into a Forgetters song.
