Song of the Day:
Hüsker Dü “Celebrated Summer”
I remember the first time I heard this song. It was in Erik’s parents apartment the summer before he moved to Austin. He told me he had found an MP3 (they weren’t as common back then) of a punk band that Nirvana used to cover.
We didn’t know exactly what to think of it, it didn’t sound what we thought was punk, it had this strange acoustic segment in the middle and at the end, yet it still kicked our ass. That afternoon we must have played the song maybe 6 times.
Since then it always finds a way of creeping into my life every so often. I own the whole Hüsker Dü discography, and love them dearly. Yet, with “Celebrated Summer”, I always think of how young we were, and it still sounds just as exciting as it ever did.
